Dr. Bitter is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, as well as Hematology. A nationally recognized expert, Dr. Bitter brings extensive experience and leadership in diagnostic hematopathology as head of the Department of Hematopathology at UniPath. After earning a B.A. degree in biology from the State Uinversity of New York at Binghamton, Dr. Bitter earned his M.D. degree in 1978 from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, Chicago, Illinois and was also elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Following a residency in pathology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Denver, Colorado, Dr. Bitter completed his fellowship in hematopathology at the University of Chicago Medical Center. He was invited to join the faculty at the University of Chicago as Assistant Professor of Pathology; and also served as Assistant Director of Hematopathology. In 1989, Dr. Bitter returned to the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center as Director of Hematopathology and the Clinical Hematology Laboratory; while there, he rose to the rank of Professor of Pathology and developed an active consultation service. He continues to be affiliated with UCHSC as Clinical Professor of Pathology. Dr. Bitter has numerous publications in peer reviewed journals in the areas of leukemia and lymphoma, and is also the author of several book chapters. |

Dr. Brooke is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. He is also board-certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners. His primary areas of interest are surgical pathology and blood banking. After earning a B.S. and an M.S. in zoology, Dr. Brooke received his medical degree from the George Washington University School of Health Sciences, Washington, D.C. in 1984. Dr. Brooke went on to complete both an internship and a residency in pathology at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado. After residency, Dr. Brooke served as a staff pathologist for four years at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center, where his duties included serving as Medical Director of Transfusion Services and Blood Donor Services. Dr. Brooke also served as staff pathologist at Mercy Medical Center in Denver, Colorado prior to joining UniPath where has been a member of the pathology staff at several Denver-area hospitals served by UniPath. Virginia D. Burdine, M.D., Ph.D. Dr. Burdine is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, with subspecialty board certification in Hematology. After earning a B.S. degree (summa cum laude) in biology and chemistry from Southern Nazarene University, Bethany, Oklahoma, Dr. Burdine received a Ph.D. in molecular and cell biology from the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. She received her M.D. degree (with outstanding distinction) in 1997 from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, College of Medicine. Dr. Burdine completed her residency in Pathology at Penrose Hospital, Colorado Springs, Colorado, and subsequently completed a fellowship in Hematopathology at the University of Wisconsin Hospital & Clinics, Madison, Wisconsin. Prior to joining UniPath, Dr. Burdine has been member of the pathology staff at several hospitals in Tulsa, Oklahoma, including Saint Francis Hospital, Southwestern Regional Medical Center, and Saint Francis Heart Hospital. During her appointments at these hospitals, she served as Medical Director is several areas, including Transfusion Service, the Hematology and Coagulation Laboratories, the Hematopoetic Stem Cell Processing Laboratory, and the Clinical Laboratory. Dr. Burdine is a member of several professional societies including, College of American Pathologists (CAP), United States and Canadian Association of Pathology (USCAP), American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Society of Hematology, American Association of Blood Banks, Society for Hematopathology, and Children's Oncology Group. |

Dr. Chahal is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. Her areas of interest include cytopathology, urologic pathology, gastrointestinal pathology, and gynecologic pathology. Dr. Chahal received her medical degree from Lady Hardinge Medical College, University of Delhi, New Delhi, India. She then completed an internship at Kalawati Saran Children’s Hospital and Smt. Sucheta Kripalani Hospital in New Delhi, India. Dr. Chahal completed her residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Denver, Colorado. She then went on to complete a fellowship in surgical pathology at Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Medical Center, Houston, Texas. Since fellowship training, Dr. Chahal has devoted her career to advancing women’s diagnostics specifically related to gynecologic oncology and breast pathology and has published in both areas. Dr. Chahal is a member of several professional organizations including the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), College of American Pathologists (CAP), and the Colorado Society of Clinical Pathologists.

Dr. Dash is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, and is a Renal Fellow. Her areas of focus are renal pathology and surgical pathology. Dr. Dash received her medical degree in 1991 from Maharaja Krishna Chandra Gajapati Medical College, Berhampur, Orissa, India where she also completed a rotational internship and her pathology residency. She then completed a fellowship in Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine at Safdurjung Hospital, New Delhi, India. Dr. Dash also completed a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina. Dr. Dash also completed a fellowship in Renal Pathology with Dr. Agnes Fogo at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, Tennessee. Previously, Dr. Dash has also served as Assistant Professor, Department of Pathology, Vinayaka Missions Kirupananda Variyar Medical College and Hospital, Salem, India. She is an active presenter and speaker in a variety of conferences including gastrointestinal and genitourinary conferences. She has also received awards, including the pathologist-in-training award from the Society of Ultra- structural Pathology. Dr. Heasley is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with subspecialty board certification in Dermatopathology. Dr. Heasley received a B.S. in biology from Eastern Nazarene College, Boston, Massachusetts, and then earned her medical degree in 1984 from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, East Lansing, Michigan. After spending six years as a family practitioner, she entered a residency program in pathology at Grand Rapids Area Medical Education Center of Michigan State University, and completed it at the Albany Medical Center Hospital of the Albany Medical College in Albany, New York. Dr. Heasley completed a fellowship in Dermatopathology at Albany Medical Center Hospital, Albany, New York with Dr. Martin C. Mihm, who has been the senior dermatopathologist at Harvard Medical School / Massachusetts General Hospital for over 30 years, and is world-renowned in the field of malignant melanoma. Dr. Heasley has perfomed research on basal cell carcinoma, and has published research articles, as well as a book chapter on malignant melanoma. Dr. Heasley is member of several professional organizations, including CAP, ASCP, and the Colorado Dermatological Society. |

Dr. Hodges is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. Dr. Hodges has decades of hospital-based pathology experience with his primary area of interest being surgical pathology. Ater earning a B.A. degree in chemistry and biology from the University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Hodges received his M.D. degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas in 1973. He then completed an internship at Baylor Affiliated Hospitals, Houston, Texas. He subsequently moved to Colorado where he completed his residency in pathology at Mercy Medical Center in Denver. Dr. Hodges has been a member of the pathology staff of several Denver area hospitals that UniPath serves. For many years he has been the medical director of the pathology department at North Suburban Medical Center, Thornton, Colorado. Previously, he also served as medical director for Quest Diagnostics in Denver, Colorado.

He then completed a residency in General Surgery and a second residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Saint Louis, Missouri, where he also served as co-chief resident in Anatomic Pathology. Following his residencies, Dr. Hull completed a fellowship in Cytopathology and a second fellowship in Surgical Pathology at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Prior to joining UniPath, Dr. Hull served as Assistant Professor, Department of Pathology and Immunology at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital. After earning a B.S. degree in psychology with a minor in chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign, Dr. Kaneshiro received his M.D. degree with honors in 2006 from the University of Illinois at Chicago, School of Medicine. He then completed a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at The Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio, and a fellowship in Gastrointestinal Pathology at Caris Life Sciences, Dallas, Texas. Her interests are in surgical pathology, blood blanking and pediatric pathology. Dr. Kelly received her medical degree from the University of Health Sciences in Kansas City, Missouri. She completed an internship in Family Medicine, and her residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia. Dr. Kelly went on to complete a fellowship in Pediatric Pathology at The Children's Hospital in Denver, Colorado. Prior to joining UniPath, Dr. Kelly was Medical Director of Trasfusion Medicine Services, and attending pathologist at The Children's Hospital, Denver, Colorado. Dr. Kelly serves on numerous hospital committees, as well as the AABB Pediatric Hemotherapy Committee nationally. After earning a B.A. degree in biology from Colorado College, Dr. Madsen attended Saint Louis University School of Medicine, Saint Louis, Missouri, receiving his M.D. degree in 1983. After medical school, he completed an internship and his residency training in General Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Cook County Hospital. In addition to clinical surgery duties, he performed research on the effect of steroid hormones on sarcoma tumor cell growth, as an American Cancer Society Oncology Fellow. Dr. Madsen went on to complete a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Denver, Colorado, and a fellowship in Surgical Pathology at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, with Dr. Louis P. Cristina Smith McLaughlin, M.D. Dr. McLaughlin is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. She is also subspecialty board-certified in Hematology. After earning a B.A. in history from Reed College, Dr. McLaughlin received her medical degree in 2004 from the Oregon Health & Sciences University School of Medicine in Portland, Oregon, where she also completed her pathology residency and served as co-chief resident. Dr. McLaughlin completed a surgical pathology fellowship at The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota; and then returned to Portland, Oregon to complete a fellowship in Hematopathology at the Oregon Health & Sciences University School of Medicine. Dr. McLaughlin is a member of several professional societies, including CAP, ASCP, USCAP, and the American Society of Cytopathologists. She has also served as CAP junior inspector. At medical school, she was elected into the Mosenthal Surgical Society and also worked as a research associate in pre-doctoral education. Following medical school, Dr. Mengshol completed an internship at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, and her residency in Anatomic Pathology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, Colorado. After earning a B.S. degree in chemistry from the University of Califrornia at Berkeley, Dr. Sartorio earned his M.D. degree from Howard University, Washington, DC in 1975. He then went on to complete an internship and his residency at Presbyterian Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Sartorio is a member of numerous professional organizations including the College of American Pathologists, Denver Medical Society, Colorado Medical Society, and Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. After completing a B.S. degree in aeronautical and astronautical engineering from Purdue University, Dr. Scheele earned his M.D. degree from the Saint Louis University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Missouri in 1985. He then went on to complete an internship and residency program in Pathology at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Cincinnati, Ohio. He then completed his fellowship in Anatomic Pathology in 1990 at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He is currently the president of UniPath P.C., the 20+ pathologist group serving UniPath/APP Laboratories and several hospitals and healthcare facilities in Colorado. Dr. Sirgi is also a member of the joint strategy board of UniPath, P.C. and American Pathology Partners and the Medical Director of laboratories at The Urology Center of Colorado (TUCC) and of the Colorado Center for Laboratory Medical Sciences, one of the premier medical technology schools in the U.S. His recent leadership activities include serving as president of the medical staff at Presbyterian/Saint Luke’s Medical Center, Denver, Colorado, as well as chair of the HealthOne Presidents Council, an advisory body of the medical staff leaderships of a seven-hospital system. Dr. Sirgi is a diplomate of the Saint Joseph University School of Medicine, Beirut, Lebanon. He completed his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Booth Memorial Medical Center in New York City, a fellowship in Surgical Pathology at Barnes Hospital, Washington University Medical Center in Saint Louis, Missouri, and an additional subspecialty fellowship in General and Interventional Cytopathology at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas. Dr. Sirgi was on the faculty staff at both institutions after completion of each fellowship. Dr. Sirgi served as chairman of the Pathology Department at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center (1997-2003) and president of the Colorado Society of Clinical Pathologists (2003/2004). Dr. Tyson served as staff pathologist and Assistant Professor, Department of Pediatrics and Pathology at Kosair Children's Hospital and University of Louisville School of Medicine, Louisville, Kentucky. He then joined The Children's Hospital and University of Colorado School of Medicine, Denver, Colorado, as staff pathologist and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology. Dr. Venrick is currently the Medical Director of UniPath Central Laboratories, and a member of the Board of UniPath, PC. After earning a B.S. degree in biology and psychology from Colorado State University, Ft. Collins, Colorado, Dr. Venrick earned his M.D. degree in 1983 from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Denver, Colorado. He then went on to complete an internship and his residency at the Letterman Army Medical Center, U.S. Army in San Francisco, California. Following his residency, Dr. Venrick completed a fellowship in Cytopathology at George Washington University, Washington, DC. Dr. Venrick also served as Assistant Clinical Professor, University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, and prior to joining UniPath, Dr. Venrick held several positions, including staff pathologist at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital, Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. Along with his many affiliations and awards, Dr. Venrick is a member of several professional organizations, including Colorado Medical Society, ASCP, CAP, American Society of Cytopathology, Denver Medical Society, and the Colorado Society of Clinical Pathologist (president 1994-1995). Dr. Venrick served in the U.S. Army and honorably discharged as Major in 1990. |

Dr. Wagner is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with subspecialty board certification in Cytopathology. Her primary area of focus is women’s health. After earning a B.S. degree summa cum laude in biology from the University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Wagner received her M.D. degree in 1982 from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, Texas, where she also completed her residency. She then completed a fellowship in Cytopathology at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas in 1988. Dr. Wagner is a member of the College of American Pathologists, American Society of Clinical Pathologists and the American Society of Cytopathology. After joining UniPath in 1988, she has been member of the pathology staff in several hospitals served by UniPath. She is currently Medical Director for Platte Valley Medical Center laboratory and the Director of Cytopathology at Porter, Littleton, and Avista Adventist Hospitals.

Dr. Webb is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. He is also board-certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners. His primary areas of interest are in surgical pathology and women's health. After earning a B.S. degree with highest honors in microbiology from Oregon State University, Dr. Webb graduated cum laude with an M.D. degree from the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center in Portland, Oregon in 1980. Following medical school, he completed his residency at University of Colorado Health Science Center, Denver, Colorado. Dr. Webb then completed a fellowship in Surgical Pathology at Stanford University Medical Center in Stanford, California. Dr. Webb is also a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, Colorado Society of Clinical Pathologists, American Pathology Foundation and the College of American Pathologists. Dr. Webb is the Medical Director of Anatomic Pathology at Parker Adventist Hospital. His numerous professional duties in pathology practice include sitting on the Cancer Activities Committee, Clinical Excellence Committee and the Technical Advisory Committee.

Dr. Yang is board-certified in Anatomic Pathology with additional subspecialty board certifications in Hematology and Dermatopathology. After earning a B.S. in biology from Hangzhou University, China, Dr. Yang completed graduate work in biology at Zhejiang University, China and the University of Florida, and went on to earn a Ph.D. in genetics from SUNY at Stony Brook (Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory). She also completed a post-doctoral fellowship in human genetics at Stanford University, Palo Alto, California. Dr. Yang received her M.D. degree in 2006 from Duke University Medical School in Durham, North Carolina. She then completed her residency in Anatomic Pathology including a three-month soft tissue pathology fellowship, and subsequently a fellowship in Hematopathology at the Department of Pathology, Harvard Medical School / Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts. She has also completed a fellowship in Dermatopathology at The Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Yang also founded and was the Chief Technology Officer of FreshGene, Inc., Mountain View, California, which was a venture-backed molecular diagnostics company that was acquired by Panomics, Inc. in 2003 which eventually became part of Affymetryx, Inc. in 2007. While at FresGene, Dr. Yang, invented, developed and optimized a new SNP/point mutation genotyping technology with three issued patents. Dr. Yang has been the recipient of multiple scholastic honors and awards, and has been involved in multiple research projects. |

Dr. Lin leads our flow cytometry technical operation as Director of Flow Cytometry. Dr. Lin was most recently Manager, Cell Marker Laboratory, Department of Clinical laboratories at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, N.Y. Previously, Dr. Lin served as Laboratory Supervisor and Research Associate, Cellular Immunology Laboratory, Department of Pediatrics/Division of Hematology/Oncology of Weil Medical College of Cornell University, New York, N.Y. Before that, Dr. Lin was a research associate in Integrative Medicine Service at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Lin holds a B.S. degree from Agriculture College, and a Ph.D. from Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, China. She then completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Karmanos Cancer Institute, Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Lin received several awards and has published extensively. She is member of the American Association for Cancer Research and an active member of the American Association of Hematology. Dr. Lin has extensive experience in flow cytometric immunophenotyping for leukocytes (lymphocyte subsets, helper/suppressor T cell quantitation, myelomocytic immunophenotyping) and neoplastic hematolymphoid cells (leukemia, lymphoma, T, B, non-lymphoid cells, and Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria), as well as flow cytometric intracellular cytokine assays, and DNA cell cycle analysis. She also has direct clinical trials experience, having conducted cellular immunological tests for clinical trial “A phase I/II study of Maitake MD-fraction in breast cancer patients”. |

Dr. Payne joined in 2009 to lead our molecular laboratory division and currently serves as Vice President of Molecular Services. She was most recently Director of the Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas where she was also Associate Professor of Pathology. She was also Director and a founding member of the Division of Molecular Diagnostics in the Department of Pathology at the University of Texas Medical Branch. Dr. Payne received her Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas; and performed part of her post-doctoral training at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. Dr. Payne is nationally recognized in molecular diagnostics, is an active speaker, well published and active member of numerous committees and industry organizations. She has held offices as the Chair of the Training and Education Committee for the Association of Molecular Pathology, as Chair of the Molecular Pathology division (2002-2003) for the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC), as the Co-Chair for the NACB Laboratory Practice Guidelines Committee on Pharmacogenetics, as the only U.S. member is on the Committee for Molecular Diagnostics for the International Federation for Clinical Chemistry (IFCC), and as member of the Board of Directors for the American Board of Clinical Chemistry. Dr. Payne is also a member of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) committee on reference materials, an advisor for the Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI), and a member of the Board of Directors for the American Board of Clinical Chemistry (ABCC). Dr. Payne also served as a voting member for the Molecular and Clinical Genetics Devices Panel of the Medical Devices Advisory Committee of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Dr. Payne has authored or co-authored several book chapters, and 55 manuscripts, and is on the editorial board for LabMedicine. She is certified as a clinical laboratory technologist in Molecular Biology MB(ASCP), holds a Diplomate in Laboratory Management DLM(ASCP). She is also a Fellow of the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (FACB), and is board-certified by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry in Molecular Diagnostics (DABCC) and by the American Board of Medical Microbiology (DABCC). |
