Dr. Bitter is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, as well as Hematology. A nationally recognized expert, Dr. Bitter brings extensive experience and leadership in diagnostic hematopathology as head of the Department of Hematopathology at UniPath. After earning a B.A. degree in biology from the State Uinversity of New York at Binghamton, Dr. Bitter earned his M.D. degree in 1978 from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, Chicago, Illinois and was also elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Following a residency in pathology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Denver, Colorado, Dr. Bitter completed his fellowship in hematopathology at the University of Chicago Medical Center. He was invited to join the faculty at the University of Chicago as Assistant Professor of Pathology; and also served as Assistant Director of Hematopathology. In 1989, Dr. Bitter returned to the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center as Director of Hematopathology and the Clinical Hematology Laboratory; while there, he rose to the rank of Professor of Pathology and developed an active consultation service. He continues to be affiliated with UCHSC as Clinical Professor of Pathology. Dr. Bitter has numerous publications in peer reviewed journals in the areas of leukemia and lymphoma, and is also the author of several book chapters. |

Dr. Brooke is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. He is also board-certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners. His primary areas of interest are surgical pathology and blood banking. After earning a B.S. and an M.S. in zoology, Dr. Brooke received his medical degree from the George Washington University School of Health Sciences, Washington, D.C. in 1984. Dr. Brooke went on to complete both an internship and a residency in pathology at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado. After residency, Dr. Brooke served as a staff pathologist for four years at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center, where his duties included serving as Medical Director of Transfusion Services and Blood Donor Services. Dr. Brooke also served as staff pathologist at Mercy Medical Center in Denver, Colorado prior to joining UniPath where has been a member of the pathology staff at several Denver-area hospitals served by UniPath. Virginia D. Burdine, M.D., Ph.D. Dr. Burdine is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, with subspecialty board certification in Hematology. After earning a B.S. degree (summa cum laude) in biology and chemistry from Southern Nazarene University, Bethany, Oklahoma, Dr. Burdine received a Ph.D. in molecular and cell biology from the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. She received her M.D. degree (with outstanding distinction) in 1997 from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, College of Medicine. Dr. Burdine completed her residency in Pathology at Penrose Hospital, Colorado Springs, Colorado, and subsequently completed a fellowship in Hematopathology at the University of Wisconsin Hospital & Clinics, Madison, Wisconsin. Prior to joining UniPath, Dr. Burdine has been member of the pathology staff at several hospitals in Tulsa, Oklahoma, including Saint Francis Hospital, Southwestern Regional Medical Center, and Saint Francis Heart Hospital. During her appointments at these hospitals, she served as Medical Director is several areas, including Transfusion Service, the Hematology and Coagulation Laboratories, the Hematopoetic Stem Cell Processing Laboratory, and the Clinical Laboratory. Dr. Burdine is a member of several professional societies including, College of American Pathologists (CAP), United States and Canadian Association of Pathology (USCAP), American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Society of Hematology, American Association of Blood Banks, Society for Hematopathology, and Children's Oncology Group. |

Dr. Chahal is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. Her areas of interest include cytopathology, urologic pathology, gastrointestinal pathology, and gynecologic pathology. Dr. Chahal received her medical degree from Lady Hardinge Medical College, University of Delhi, New Delhi, India. She then completed an internship at Kalawati Saran Children’s Hospital and Smt. Sucheta Kripalani Hospital in New Delhi, India. Dr. Chahal completed her residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Denver, Colorado. She then went on to complete a fellowship in surgical pathology at Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Medical Center, Houston, Texas. Since fellowship training, Dr. Chahal has devoted her career to advancing women’s diagnostics specifically related to gynecologic oncology and breast pathology and has published in both areas. Dr. Chahal is a member of several professional organizations including the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), College of American Pathologists (CAP), and the Colorado Society of Clinical Pathologists.

Dr. Dash is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, and is a Renal Fellow. Her areas of focus are renal pathology and surgical pathology. Dr. Dash received her medical degree in 1991 from Maharaja Krishna Chandra Gajapati Medical College, Berhampur, Orissa, India where she also completed a rotational internship and her pathology residency. She then completed a fellowship in Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine at Safdurjung Hospital, New Delhi, India. Dr. Dash also completed a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina. Dr. Dash also completed a fellowship in Renal Pathology with Dr. Agnes Fogo at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, Tennessee. Previously, Dr. Dash has also served as Assistant Professor, Department of Pathology, Vinayaka Missions Kirupananda Variyar Medical College and Hospital, Salem, India. She is an active presenter and speaker in a variety of conferences including gastrointestinal and genitourinary conferences. She has also received awards, including the pathologist-in-training award from the Society of Ultra- structural Pathology. Dr. Dash is member of several professional organizations, including CAP, ASCP, and Southern Medical Association.

Dr. Heasley is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with subspecialty board certification in Dermatopathology. Dr. Heasley received a B.S. in biology from Eastern Nazarene College, Boston, Massachusetts, and then earned her medical degree in 1984 from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, East Lansing, Michigan. After spending six years as a family practitioner, she entered a residency program in pathology at Grand Rapids Area Medical Education Center of Michigan State University, and completed it at the Albany Medical Center Hospital of the Albany Medical College in Albany, New York. Dr. Heasley completed a fellowship in Dermatopathology at Albany Medical Center Hospital, Albany, New York with Dr. Martin C. Mihm, who has been the senior dermatopathologist at Harvard Medical School / Massachusetts General Hospital for over 30 years, and is world-renowned in the field of malignant melanoma. Dr. Heasley has perfomed research on basal cell carcinoma, and has published research articles, as well as a book chapter on malignant melanoma. Dr. Heasley is member of several professional organizations, including CAP, ASCP, and the Colorado Dermatological Society. |

Dr. Hodges is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. Dr. Hodges has decades of hospital-based pathology experience with his primary area of interest being surgical pathology. Ater earning a B.A. degree in chemistry and biology from the University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Hodges received his M.D. degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas in 1973. He then completed an internship at Baylor Affiliated Hospitals, Houston, Texas. He subsequently moved to Colorado where he completed his residency in pathology at Mercy Medical Center in Denver. Dr. Hodges has been a member of the pathology staff of several Denver area hospitals that UniPath serves. For many years he has been the medical director of the pathology department at North Suburban Medical Center, Thornton, Colorado. Previously, he also served as medical director for Quest Diagnostics in Denver, Colorado.

After earning a B.S. degree (magna cum laude) in chemistry from the University of Toledo, Dr. Hull received his M.D. degree in 2001 from Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, Indiana. He then completed a residency in General Surgery and a second residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Saint Louis, Missouri, where he also served as co-chief resident in Anatomic Pathology. Following his residencies, Dr. Hull completed a fellowship in Cytopathology and a second fellowship in Surgical Pathology at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Prior to joining UniPath, Dr. Hull served as Assistant Professor, Department of Pathology and Immunology at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital. After earning a B.S. degree in psychology with a minor in chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign, Dr. Kaneshiro received his M.D. degree with honors in 2006 from the University of Illinois at Chicago, School of Medicine. He then completed a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at The Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio, and a fellowship in Gastrointestinal Pathology at Caris Life Sciences, Dallas, Texas. Dr. Kaneshiro has been involved in several research projects and is a member of several pathology professional organizations including, United States and Canadian Association of Pathology (USCAP), American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), Ohio Society of Pathology, and Cleveland Society of Pathology. |

Dr. Madsen is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. His primary areas of interest are surgical pathology, gastrointestinal pathology, urologic pathology, and immunohistochemistry. After earning a B.A. degree in biology from Colorado College, Dr. Madsen attended Saint Louis University School of Medicine, Saint Louis, Missouri, receiving his M.D. degree in 1983. After medical school, he completed an internship and his residency training in General Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Cook County Hospital. In addition to clinical surgery duties, he performed research on the effect of steroid hormones on sarcoma tumor cell growth, as an American Cancer Society Oncology Fellow. Dr. Madsen went on to complete a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Denver, Colorado, and a fellowship in Surgical Pathology at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, with Dr. Louis P. Dehner. Dr. Madsen is based at Presbyterian / St. Luke’s Hospital, Denver, Colorado, where he is Vice Chairman of the Department of Pathology, and the Director of Anatomic Pathology. |

Cristina Smith McLaughlin, M.D. Dr. McLaughlin is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. She is also subspecialty board-certified in Hematology. After earning a B.A. in history from Reed College, Dr. McLaughlin received her medical degree in 2004 from the Oregon Health & Sciences University School of Medicine in Portland, Oregon, where she also completed her pathology residency and served as co-chief resident. Dr. McLaughlin completed a surgical pathology fellowship at The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota; and then returned to Portland, Oregon to complete a fellowship in Hematopathology at the Oregon Health & Sciences University School of Medicine. Dr. McLaughlin is a member of several professional societies, including CAP, ASCP, USCAP, and the American Society of Cytopathologists. She has also served as CAP junior inspector. Dr. McLaughlin has been involved in several research projects, publications and presentations in pathology. She has also been the recipient of a number of honors and rewards, including American Society of Hematology Scholar, the Alma B. Dr. Merrick received his medical degree from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine, graduating Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed his pathology residency at Presbyterian Medical Center in Denver, Colorado followed by a fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. After joining the U.S. Army, he was stationed at the 3rd Field Hospital, Saigon where he gained extensive experience in tropical infectious diseases. Dr. Merrick has been on the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Commission on Laboratory Accreditation since 1986, most recently as Education Commissioner and Chairman of the Safety Committee.

He then completed his residency and a fellowship in Hematology at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center, Salt Lake City, Utah. Following his fellowship, Dr. Miller served as staff pathologist for several medical centers and pathology laboratories, including serving as Assistant Medical Director in Hematologic Flow Cytometry at ARUP Laboratories, Salt Lake City, Utah. Dr. Miller has also been a CAP inspector. Dr. Miller has been the recipient of multiple scholastic honors and rewards, including Young Investiators Award by the Academy of Clinical and Laboratory Physicians and Scientists (ACLPS). He has also been involved in multiple research projects and has given numerous presentations in hematology. |

He then completed a clinical internship at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, Texas, followed by his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology in the combined Wilford Hall Medical Center (WHMC) and BAMC program in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Olivere served as Chief of Anatomic Pathology and Medical Director of Microbiology Outpatient Clinic Laboratories at Darnall Army Community Hospital in Fort Hood, Texas from 1999 to 2003. Dr. Olivere completed his Dermatopathology fellowship at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions in Baltimore, Maryland in 2004. Dr. Olivere is actively involved in the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the American Society of Dermatopathology. Dr. Olivere received multiple awards and has authored numerous research articles and publications in the field of dermatopathology. |

He then went on to complete an internship and his residency at Presbyterian Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Sartorio is a member of numerous professional organizations including the College of American Pathologists, Denver Medical Society, Colorado Medical Society, and Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He is also a member of the American Board of Pathology and the Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Board. He then went on to complete an internship and residency program in Pathology at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Cincinnati, Ohio. He then completed his fellowship in Anatomic Pathology in 1990 at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Dr. Scheele is an active member of many local and national professional organizations such as the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, Colorado Medical Society, College of American Pathologists, American Society of Clinical Pathologists and the American Medical Association. He has published numerous articles on various tumor types to include breast pathology and gynecologic oncology. |

Dr. Sirgi is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with subspecialty board certification in Cytopathology. He is currently the president of UniPath P.C., the 20+ pathologist group serving UniPath/APP Laboratories and several hospitals and healthcare facilities in Colorado. Dr. Sirgi is also a member of the joint strategy board of UniPath, P.C. and American Pathology Partners and the Medical Director of laboratories at The Urology Center of Colorado (TUCC) and of the Colorado Center for Laboratory Medical Sciences, one of the premier medical technology schools in the U.S. His recent leadership activities include serving as president of the medical staff at Presbyterian/Saint Luke’s Medical Center, Denver, Colorado, as well as chair of the HealthOne Presidents Council, an advisory body of the medical staff leaderships of a seven-hospital system. Dr. Sirgi is a diplomate of the Saint Joseph University School of Medicine, Beirut, Lebanon. He completed his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Booth Memorial Medical Center in New York City, a fellowship in Surgical Pathology at Barnes Hospital, Washington University Medical Center in Saint Louis, Missouri, and an additional subspecialty fellowship in General and Interventional Cytopathology at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas. Dr. Sirgi was on the faculty staff at both institutions after completion of each fellowship. Dr. Sirgi served as chairman of the Pathology Department at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center (1997-2003) and president of the Colorado Society of Clinical Pathologists (2003/2004). He is also a former member of the College of American Pathologists Cytopathology Resource Committee and of the Gynecology Oncology Group pathology review committee. In surveys by 5280 Magazine, Dr. Sirgi was voted best pathologist in Denver by his clinical peers for several years (1998-1999, 2003-2009). In addition to diagnostic pathology, Dr. Sirgi has a professional interest in, and has lectured about, the business of pathology, emerging technologies, medical groups dynamics and systems improvement. After graduating summa cum laude with a B.A. degree in chemistry from the Colorado College, Dr. Small attended Duke University Medical Center’s Medical Scientist Training Program, graduating with an M.D. and Ph.D. in Medical Mycology in 1983. He completed his pathology residency at the University of Utah School of Medicine, Salt Lake City, Utah. Dr. Small has served as medical director for two Colorado hospitals and as Vice Chairman, Department of Pathology for Presbyterian / St. Luke's Medical Center, Denver, Colorado. Dr. Small is active in several professional organizations including being a past President of the Colorado Society of Clinical Pathologists, and member of the College of American Pathologists, the Gynecologic Oncology Group, as well as various advisory committees. Dr. Small has also served as a Study Pathologist for several Gynecologic Oncology Group clinical trials. |

Dr. Sotelo then continued her medical training at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, where she completed an internship in OB/GYN, a residency in Anatomic Pathology, and a fellowship in Surgical Pathology. During that time, she participated in a number of research projects and published several journal articles. Dr. Sotelo also completed a fellowship in Pediatric Pathology at Saint Louis University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Missouri. He then completed an internship in Surgery at the University of Colorado Medical Center and Affiliated Hospitals, Denver, Colorado. Dr. Stoffel completed his residency in the Department of Clinical and Anatomic Pathology at Presbyterian Medical Center, Denver, Colorado. For several years Dr. Stoffel has been the Medical Director of Pathology at the Medical Center of Aurora - South Campus. He has also served as member of the pathology staff at several Denver area hospitals, including Avista, Littleton, Parker and Porter Adventist Hospitals.

After receiving a B.S. with honors in chemistry from the University of Denver, Dr. Tyson received his M.D. degree with honors from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Denver, Colorado in 1984. He then completed his residency as Chief Resident at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. He also completed there a concurrent fellowship year in Clinical Genetics. Following this, Dr. Tyson completed a fellowship in Pediatric Anatomic Pathology at British Columbia Children's Hospital in Vancouver, B.C., Canada. Dr. Tyson served as staff pathologist and Assistant Professor, Department of Pediatrics and Pathology at Kosair Children's Hospital and University of Louisville School of Medicine, Louisville, Kentucky. He then joined The Children's Hospital and University of Colorado School of Medicine, Denver, Colorado, as staff pathologist and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology. Dr. Tyson joined UniPath in 1999 from The Children's Hospital. He has since served as member of the pathology staff in several Denver area hospitals. Dr. Venrick is currently the Medical Director of UniPath Central Laboratories, and a member of the Board of UniPath, PC. After earning a B.S. degree in biology and psychology from Colorado State University, Ft. Collins, Colorado, Dr. Venrick earned his M.D. degree in 1983 from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Denver, Colorado. He then went on to complete an internship and his residency at the Letterman Army Medical Center, U.S. Army in San Francisco, California. Following his residency, Dr. Venrick completed a fellowship in Cytopathology at George Washington University, Washington, DC. Dr. Venrick also served as Assistant Clinical Professor, University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, and prior to joining UniPath, Dr. Venrick held several positions, including staff pathologist at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital, Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. Along with his many affiliations and awards, Dr. Venrick is a member of several professional organizations, including Colorado Medical Society, ASCP, CAP, American Society of Cytopathology, Denver Medical Society, and the Colorado Society of Clinical Pathologist (president 1994-1995). After earning a B.S. degree with highest honors in microbiology from Oregon State University, Dr. Webb graduated cum laude with an M.D. degree from the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center in Portland, Oregon in 1980. Following medical school, he completed his residency at University of Colorado Health Science Center, Denver, Colorado. Dr. Webb then completed a fellowship in Surgical Pathology at Stanford University Medical Center in Stanford, California. Dr. Webb is also a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, Colorado Society of Clinical Pathologists, American Pathology Foundation and the College of American Pathologists. Dr. Webb is the Medical Director of Anatomic Pathology at Parker Adventist Hospital. His numerous professional duties in pathology practice include sitting on the Cancer Activities Committee, Clinical Excellence Committee and the Technical Advisory Committee.

After earning a B.S. in biology from Hangzhou University, China, Dr. Yang completed graduate work in biology at Zhejiang University, China and the University of Florida, and went on to earn a Ph.D. in genetics from SUNY at Stony Brook (Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory). She also completed a post-doctoral fellowship in human genetics at Stanford University, Palo Alto, California. Dr. Yang received her M.D. degree in 2006 from Duke University Medical School in Durham, North Carolina. She then completed her residency in Anatomic Pathology including a three-month soft tissue pathology fellowship, and subsequently a fellowship in Hematopathology at the Department of Pathology, Harvard Medical School / Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts. She has also completed a fellowship in Dermatopathology at The Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Yang also founded and was the Chief Technology Officer of FreshGene, Inc., Mountain View, California, which was a venture-backed molecular diagnostics company that was acquired by Panomics, Inc. in 2003 which eventually became part of Affymetryx, Inc. in 2007. While at FresGene, Dr. Yang, invented, developed and optimized a new SNP/point mutation genotyping technology with three issued patents. Dr. Thorne is also a co-founder of Eastern Carolina Pathology and currently serves as the Medical Director of the APP/ECP laboratory. After earning a B.S. degree in bacteriology from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Dr. Thorne earned her M.D. degree in 1974 from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Chapel Hill where she also completed he residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. She then went on to complete fellowship training in Blood Banking at North Carolina Memorial Hospital, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, as well as a fellowship in Forensic Pathology with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Dr. Thorne also has special training in renal pathology and electron microscopy.
