Karim E. Sirgi, M.D.

Dr. Sirgi is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with subspecialty board certification in Cytopathology. He is currently the president of UniPath P.C., the 20+ pathologist group serving UniPath/APP Laboratories and several hospitals and healthcare facilities in Colorado. Dr. Sirgi is also a member of the joint strategy board of UniPath, P.C. and American Pathology Partners and the Medical Director of laboratories at The Urology Center of Colorado (TUCC) and of the Colorado Center for Laboratory Medical Sciences, one of the premier medical technology schools in the U.S. His recent leadership activities include serving as president of the medical staff at Presbyterian/Saint Luke’s Medical Center, Denver, Colorado, as well as chair of the HealthOne Presidents Council, an advisory body of the medical staff leaderships of a seven-hospital system.

Dr. Sirgi is a diplomate of the Saint Joseph University School of Medicine, Beirut, Lebanon. He completed his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Booth Memorial Medical Center in New York City, a fellowship in Surgical Pathology at Barnes Hospital, Washington University Medical Center in Saint Louis, Missouri, and an additional subspecialty fellowship in General and Interventional Cytopathology at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas. Dr. Sirgi was on the faculty staff at both institutions after completion of each fellowship. Dr. Sirgi served as chairman of the Pathology Department at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center (1997-2003) and president of the Colorado Society of Clinical Pathologists (2003/2004). He is also a former member of the College of American Pathologists Cytopathology Resource Committee and of the Gynecology Oncology Group pathology review committee. In surveys by 5280 Magazine, Dr. Sirgi was voted best pathologist in Denver by his clinical peers for several years (1998-1999, 2003-2009).

In addition to diagnostic pathology, Dr. Sirgi has a professional interest in, and has lectured about, the business of pathology, emerging technologies, medical groups dynamics and systems improvement. Dr. Sirgi is currently enrolled in the MBA program at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Shalini Chahal, M.D.

Dr. Chahal is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. Her areas of interest include cytopathology, urologic pathology, gastrointestinal pathology, and gynecologic pathology.

Dr. Chahal received her medical degree from Lady Hardinge Medical College, University of Delhi, New Delhi, India. She then completed an internship at Kalawati Saran Children’s Hospital and Smt. Sucheta Kripalani Hospital in New Delhi, India. Dr. Chahal completed her residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Denver, Colorado. She then went on to complete a fellowship in surgical pathology at Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Medical Center, Houston, Texas.

Since fellowship training, Dr. Chahal has devoted her career to advancing women’s diagnostics specifically related to gynecologic oncology and breast pathology and has published in both areas. Dr. Chahal is a member of several professional organizations including the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), College of American Pathologists (CAP), and the Colorado Society of Clinical Pathologists.

Michael E. Hull, M.D.

Dr. Hull is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with subspecialty board certification in Cytopathology. His primary areas of interest are surgical pathology and gynecologic pathology.

After earning a B.S. degree (magna cum laude) in chemistry from the University of Toledo, Dr. Hull received his M.D. degree in 2001 from Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, Indiana. He then completed a residency in General Surgery and a second residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Saint Louis, Missouri, where he also served as co-chief resident in Anatomic Pathology. Following his residencies, Dr. Hull completed a fellowship in Cytopathology and a second fellowship in Surgical Pathology at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

Prior to joining UniPath, Dr. Hull served as Assistant Professor, Department of Pathology and Immunology at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Dr. Hull is a member of United States and Canadian Association of Pathology (USCAP), American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), Saint Louis Society of Cytology, and The Wagih Bari Society of St. Louis Pathologists.

Walter E. Madsen, M.D.

Dr. Madsen is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. His primary areas of interest are surgical pathology, gastrointestinal pathology, urologic pathology, and immunohistochemistry.

After earning a B.A. degree in biology from Colorado College, Dr. Madsen attended Saint Louis University School of Medicine, Saint Louis, Missouri, receiving his M.D. degree in 1983. After medical school, he completed an internship and his residency training in General Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Cook County Hospital. In addition to clinical surgery duties, he performed research on the effect of steroid hormones on sarcoma tumor cell growth, as an American Cancer Society Oncology Fellow.

Dr. Madsen went on to complete a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Denver, Colorado, and a fellowship in Surgical Pathology at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, with Dr. Louis P. Dehner.

Dr. Madsen is based at Presbyterian / St. Luke’s Hospital, Denver, Colorado, where he is Vice Chairman of the Department of Pathology, and the Director of Anatomic Pathology.

Andrea Kathleen Sotelo, M.D.

Dr. Sotelo is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. Dr. Sotelo's areas of interest include surgical, urologic, gastrointestinal, and pediatric pathology. After earning a B.A. degree in molecular, cellular and developmental biology from the University of Colorado at Boulder, Dr. Sotelo received her M.D. degree from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, Colorado in 1998.

Dr. Sotelo then continued her medical training at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, where she completed an internship in OB/GYN, a residency in Anatomic Pathology, and a fellowship in Surgical Pathology. During that time, she participated in a number of research projects and published several journal articles. Dr. Sotelo also completed a fellowship in Pediatric Pathology at Saint Louis University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Missouri.

Dr. Sotelo joined UniPath in 2004 and has been a member of the pathology medical staff at Presbyterian / St. Luke's Medical Center in Denver, Colorado.

David Abis, M.D.

Dr. Abis is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, as well as subspecialty board-certified in Cytopathology. Dr. Abis also has special interests in cytopathology, urologic pathology and gastrointestinal pathology. Dr. Abis currently serves as President of Palm Beach Pathology, P.A.

After earning a B.S. degree from Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, Dr. Abis earned an M.D. degree in 1985 from Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, New York, NY. He then completed his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at University of California at San Francisco. Dr. Abis is also a member of the College of American Pathologists (CAP).

Dr. Abis joined Palm Beach Pathology in 1990 and has also been a member of the pathologist staff at St. Mary's Medical Center and Good Samaritan Medical Center, West Palm Beach, Florida. He is also currently Director, Division of Pathology at St. Mary's Medical Center, West Palm Beach, Florida where he also serves on the Medical Staff Executive Committee, Surgical Quality Assurance Committee, and Trauma Quality Management Committee.

Thomas A. Bolton, M.D.

Dr. Bolton is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. He is also licensed by the National Board of Medical Examiners. Dr. Bolton's areas of special interest include immunopathology, urologic pathology, and molecular biology. He also has additional experience in dermatopathology as it relates to hematologic neoplasms, infectious processes, and immunofluorenscence. Dr. Bolton currently serves as the Medical Director of Palm Beach Pathology.

After earning a B.S. in biology and a B.A. in chemistry from Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, Florida, Dr. Bolton earned an M.D. degree in 1980 from the University of South Florida College of Medicine, Tampa, Florida, where he also completed his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. Following his residency, Dr. Bolton served as clinical associate in General Pathology and Hematology, and later as Assistant Professor of Pathology at the University of South Florida College of Medicine. Dr. Bolton was also Chief of Microbiology and staff pathologist at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa, Florida.

Dr. Bolton is active in several professional organizations, including Palm Beach County Medical Society, American Society of Microbiology, ASCP; and also serves as inspector for the College of American Pathologists (CAP).

Dr. Bolton is an active member of the pathology staff at St. Mary's Medical Center, West Palm Beach, Florida, where he is also member of the OB/GYN Committee and the Infectious Disease Committee (chair). He also a member of the pathology staff at Good Samaritan Medical Center, Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, Jupiter Memorial Hospital, and Martin Memorial Hospital.

Mark G. Phillips, M.D.

Dr. Phillips is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, as well as Cytopathology. His special interests include cytopathology, fine needle aspirations, and breast and gynecologic pathology.

After earning a B.S. degree in biology from Eckerd College, St. Petersburg, Florida and an M.S. degree in biomedical sciences from Long Island University, New York, Dr. Phillips earned an M.D. degree in 1986 from the Royal College of Surgeons, Dublin, Ireland. He then completed a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Mount Sinai Medical Center, Miami Beach, Florida where he also served as chief resident.

Dr. Phillips then went on to complete a fellowship in Pathology at University of Florida College of Medicine, Gainesville, Florida; and a subspecialty fellowship in Breast Pathology under Dr. David Page at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, Tennessee.

Dr. Phillips is currently member of the pathology staff at Good Samaritan Medical Center, where he is also Medical Director, Saint Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida, and Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center.

Alan S. Sara, M.D.

Dr. Sara is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, as well as Cytopathology. Dr. Sara has special interests in urologic pathology and hematopathology.

Dr. Sara earned his M.D. degree in 1982 from Damascus University Faculty of Medicine, Damascus, Syria. After a year as a general practicioner at Tuscon General Hospital, Tuscon, Arizona, he completed a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of South Florida College of Medicine Affiliated Hospitals, Tampa, Florida.

Dr. Sara went on to complete a fellowship in Surgical Pathology, Cytology & FNA at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas. Following his fellowship, Dr. Sara served as Assistant Professor of Pathology at the University of Miami School of Medicine, Miami, Florida.

Dr. Sara is member of several professional organizations, including College of American Pathologists (CAP) and American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). Dr. Sara is currently a pathology staff member of Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center.

James B. Cash, M.D.

Dr. Cash is co-founder and President of Eastern Carolina Pathology, P.A. as well as member of ECP's executive committee.

After earning a B.A. degree cum laude from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee, Dr. Cash earned an M.D. degree in 1977 from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, Lexington, Kentucky, where he also completed his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. Following his residency, Dr. Cash completed a fellowship in Surgical Pathology at Barnes Hospital, Washington University Medical Center, St. Louis, Missouri. He then returned to the University of Kentucky Medical School as Chief Resident and Instructor in Pathology, and later as Assistant Professor of Pathology.

Dr. Cash is active in a number of professional organizations, including College of American Pathologists (CAP), American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), North Carolina Pathology Society, and the Wilson County Medical Society. Veena H. Doshi, M.D.

Dr. Doshi is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, with subspecialty board certification in Cytopathology.

Dr. Doshi earned her medical degree (M.B.B.S.) in 1975 from Bombay University, India. She then completed a residency in Internal Medicine at L.T. General Hospital, Bombay, India and subsequently, a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Nassau County Medical Center, East Medow, NY.

Prior to joining ECP, Dr. Doshi has served as pathologist at several laboratories, including AmeriPath; Labcorp; Nash General Hospital (Rocky Mount, NC); Keiser Permanente (Raleigh-Durham, NC) where she was also Medical Director of the Clinical Laboratory; Wilson Memorial Hospital (Wilson, NC); and Nassau County Medical Center (Long Island, NY). Dr. Doshi also served as Clinical Assistant Professor of Pathology at SUNY at Stony Brook.

Dr. Doshi is member of College of American Pathologists (CAP), American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), and U.S. and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP).

W. Edward Lewis, M.D.

Dr. Lewis is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, and the subspecialty of Cytopathology. He is also board-certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners. His primary areas of interest are surgical pathology, gastrointestinal pathology, gynecologic pathology and microbiology.

After receiving a B.A. degree in chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dr. Lewis received his M.D. degree in 1986 from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He then completed his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of South Florida College of Medicine, Tampa, Florida, where he also served as Chief Resident in Pathology.

Dr. Lewis has been involved in several reserach projects and has received a number of awards. He is also a member of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), USCAP, and the Wilson County Medical Society. Dr. Lewis also serves as Medical Director of Wilson Medical Center, Wilson, North Carolina.

D. Cheryl Thorne, M.D.

Dr. Thorne is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, as well as in the subspecialties of Cytopathology, Blood Banking, and Forensic Pathology. Her primary areas of interest are cytopathology, gastrointestinal pathology, and coagulation and blood banking. Dr. Thorne is also a co-founder of Eastern Carolina Pathology and currently serves as the Medical Director of the APP/ECP laboratory.

After earning a B.S. degree in bacteriology from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Dr. Thorne earned her M.D. degree in 1974 from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Chapel Hill where she also completed he residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. She then went on to complete fellowship training in Blood Banking at North Carolina Memorial Hospital, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, as well as a fellowship in Forensic Pathology with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Dr. Thorne also has special training in renal pathology and electron microscopy. She is member of several professional organizations including the College of American Pathologists (CAP), American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), American Association of Blood Bank Institutions, and the Wilson County Medical Society. Dr. Thorne also serves as Laboratory Medical Director for Halifax Memorial Hospital, Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
